Goodyear Portal vs. Calling It In: Which Gets You Parts Faster?

Am I saying the portal is bad? No. I'm saying it was built for repeatable, spec-able products: PVC sheet, PET roll, ABS sheet, blister pack film. That's its job. It does that job very well. But for first-time custom work, a human conversation is still the best first move.

  • True emergency with vague requirements: Call, and expect to be asked for measurements. A phone call won't magically solve a missing spec.

How to Measure Hydraulic Hose Without Screwing It Up

Because this keeps coming up with clients, here's the short version:

  1. Measure the outer diameter (OD) with calipers at the widest point.
  2. Measure the inner diameter (ID) if the hose has a detachable fitting—otherwise, measure the fitting itself.
  3. Measure overall length including fittings, not just the rubber portion.
  4. Note the fitting type and thread pitch. Two hoses can look identical and be completely different.
